CELIBACY AS SOCIAL COUNTER-CONDUCT PRACTICE IN EARLY CHURCH

This paper argues that the concept of sexual abstinence in early Christianity was not based on biblical proof-texting, but rather resulted from constructive theological efforts response to socio-political reality time and Christians’ aspirations towards women marginalized. By exploring discourse surrounding marriage sexuality Greco-Roman world its impact Christianity, this highlights how teaching challenged imperial philosophy desire control.
